What is Sagralea?

Sagralea was founded in 1968 from an idea by the then parish priest of Salea, who proposed an event to promote Pigato wine . The event has improved, expanded, and developed new features over the years, moving from the small town square to the larger "Vermentina" winery, and then, since 1980, to Regione Terraconiglio at the foot of the town, a truly promising exhibition space. The organizers have also changed sides, transforming the "Società Sportiva Salea" into the "Cooperativa Macchia Verde."

The MACCHIA VERDE Cooperative has existed in its current form since 1982 but has been operating for about half a century; for fifty years it has organized the " REVIEW OF PIGATO WINE AND OTHER DOC WINES OF LIGURIA ," attracting a huge turnout of visitors and participating exhibitors.

Two facts to understand the importance that this event has assumed over the years:

  • 60,000 visitors in the 6 days of the event;
  • the area used for the event is approximately 24,000 m2 ;
  • 80 stands for displaying goods and products from local and non-local exhibitors;
  • 5,000 dishes served per evening;

Over this period of time it has managed to create a “niche” for itself in the market of MARKET FAIRS in Liguria and the neighbouring regions, so much so that for many years it has been included in the CALENDAR of “regional” events, and boasts the patronage of the Liguria Region .

It has around one hundred members and during the event held every year in August , it can always count on over 120 collaborators who make themselves available to the Cooperative free of charge for the success of the event.
